The purpose of the project was to stop the settlement of a 100-foot-wide by 250-foot-long section of the drydock concrete floor slab by implementing a fully-designed geotechnical combination of soil densification and relief well installation in a weak area of Drydock 6. The 7-foot thick slab was stabilized using compaction grouting that increased the density of the soil under the slab. The grout was pumped through 750 6-inch core holes, and the reinforcing was located prior to coring in order to minimize damage to the integrity of the slab. Dewatering wells were installed prior to the grouting operation to draw down the groundwater to a level that allowed repairs. 18 permanent pressure relief wells were installed as part of the repair.
