This design-build project, a joint venture with Nova’s small business mentor-protégé CSG, consisted of making upgrades to the MoANG AVCRAD base’s fuel storage tanks and containment area. This included the removal of an existing staircase and walkway that allowed limited access to two horizontal fuel storage tanks. A new staircase and platform was fabricated that sits atop the tanks with grating to allow access to existing Veeder root and tank appurtenances.
A new canopy / sun shade was installed upon four new 36-inch diameter caissons drilled through existing concrete. A lightning protection system with a UL Master Label was installed, including a grounding counterpoise that tied into existing grounding grid. Four LED lights were installed atop the canopy to illuminate the truck fill area below, which are operated by new manual switch or photo cell at a new electrical rack installed nearby. This rack includes one of two new push button emergency stops that tie into the storage tank pump control panel.
An existing cut and cover oil water separator was removed and replaced with an open containment pit with ladder, handrails, and a pump-out pipe. A concrete apron was added that connects the fuel storage area with the main helicopter apron to the South.
The project was completed in just over two months and finished ahead of schedule while keeping fueling operations running and minimizing impact to the MoANG facility.
