Nova was awarded a contract to replace two existing Type II hydrant fuel systems with one Type III pressurized system with a minimum pumping capacity of 3,000 gallons-per-minute. The new system includes the construction of a pumphouse, filtration and generator buildings. The existing hydrant fuel distribution system has a mix of steel, fiberglass and aluminum piping, which will be replaced with stainless steel piping.
The contract also requires the demolition of two aboveground and three underground JP-8 fuel storage tanks, and replaced with two new 25,000-barrel aboveground tanks. A 2,300-barrel diesel tank will be demolished and replaced with two 714-barrel self-contained aboveground tanks and truck fill stand. Cathodic protection and a leak detection system will be installed with the new tanks and stainless steel distribution lines.
Other new construction will be a new fuel recovery system, hydrant outlet pits, a four-stand truck unloading island and a hydrant servicing vehicle checkout station. Five JP-8 truck fill stands will be replaced with five new pantograph truck fill stands.
