This work included the construction of a 1,000′ x 60′ wharf. Nova precast approximately 550 prestressed concrete piles, ranging from 16″ to 20″ diameter. These piles included octagonal and fender piles varying in length from 76 feet to 90 feet. Nova also installed the prestressed concrete planks for topping wharf deck. Other features of the wharf included a fender system with fender backboards and pneumatic rubber fenders; a 1,000 linear foot PLZ-25 steel sheet pile bulkhead; and marine specialties. 50,000 cubic yards of material were dredged from the harbor to accommodate this new berthing facility.

In preparation for the wharf construction, Nova placed 11,000 cubic yards of ¾” rock covered with more than 25,000 cubic yards of native soil in a 60,000 sf area located between a new 1,000 linear foot new sheetpile wall and the new tieback wall as part of the fill operation. Nova utilized mechanical equipment compaction methods for densification of the fill area.

Support utilities and facilities included a 12 kV electrical distribution system and substation, area lighting, cathodic protection, a communication system, potable water distribution, low and high pressure compressed air systems; and a sanitary sewer system and new sewage pumping station

Nova also constructed a new access road, water main, and a two-story 180,000 square foot Intermediate Maintenance Facility that included cast-in-place concrete foundations and floor slab, precast concrete wall panels, steel framing, metal roof deck with EPDM roofing, masonry partitions, resilient flooring, fire protection, mechanical, electrical, civil, and demolition of structures.
